Digital Communication Digital communication is the exchange of information through electronic means. Using technology to communicate in the workplace, as well as in one’s personal life, requires users to be responsible. A digital citizen is someone who regularly and skillfully engages in the use of technology, such as the Internet, computers, and other digital devices. This requires the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate the Internet to interact with individuals and organizations. Digital communication is composed of digital literacy and digital citizenship. Digital Literacy Digital communication requires digital literacy skills. Digital literacy is the ability to use technology to locate, evaluate, communicate, and create information. According to the US federal government, digital literacy skills include: using a computer or mobile device, including the mouse, keyboard, icons, and folders using software and applications to complete tasks, such as word processing and creating spreadsheets, tables, and databases using the Internet to conduct searches, access e-mail, and register on a website communicating online, including sharing photos and videos, using social media networks, and learning to be an informed digital citizen and helping children learn to be responsible and make informed decisions online.
