The view can be changed from the default line graph to bar graphs (histogram) or see the raw data value (report). Change to each type to see the views. 4. Click the Add button on the toolbar. This is used to add more counters to monitor. The Add Counters dialog box is displayed, which contains a list of available counters. 5. Scroll through the list, and select the down arrow next to Network Adapter. In the expanded list, click Bytes Total/Sec, as shown. Select your network adapter in the Instances of selected object: box, and click the Add button to add it to the list on the right-hand side. Then, click the OK button to add the counter. 6. Applying what you have learned, display the data as a line graph. 7. Click the Properties button on the toolbar. The Performance Monitor Properties dialog box is displayed. 8. Click the network adapter counter in the list on the Data tab, and then click the Color: drop-down arrow. Change the color to blue. Also, use the Width: drop- down arrow to change the width to the thickest option. 9. Click the Graph tab, and then check the Horizontal Grid check box. This places horizontal markers on the graph. Click the OK button to update the display. 10. Leave the Performance Monitor open, and launch the command prompt. 11. Using the command prompt, use the ipconfig command to obtain the default gateway, and then ping your default gateway. Notice how the graph in the Performance Monitor changes. 12. Expand the Data Collection Sets branch in the left-hand pane of the Performance Monitor, and then click the User Defined branch.
