Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. 103 7. Click Filter Current Log… in the Actions pane. The Filter Current Log dialog box is displayed, as shown. This dialog box allows you to define multiple parameters to filter the search, such as looking for any warnings and DHCP or disk. 8. Check the Warning check box, and then click the OK button. The logs are filtered to show only those categorized as warnings. 9. Click Save filtered log as… in the Actions pane. A standard save-type dialog box is displayed. The log can be saved in comma separated value (CSV), extensible markup language (XML), text (TXT), or event log (EVTx) format. Navigate to your working folder for this class, and save the file as LogTest.csv. 10. Click Clear Filter in the Actions pane. This removes the filter you just applied, and the full list of events is again displayed in the middle pane. Note, do not click Clear Log… in the Actions pane! 11. Click Attach Task To This Event… in the Actions pane. A wizard is launched to guide you through setting an alert for the specific event that was selected in the middle pane. Click the Cancel button to close the wizard without adding an alert. Lab Activity 3-4: Event Log Backup The ability to manage logs is a skill important to IT professionals. Part of log manage- ment is creating backups of logs. 1. Applying what you have learned, launch the Windows Event Viewer. 2. Expand the tree in the left-hand pane, and select the branch for the log you wish to back up. 3. Click Save All Events As… in the Actions pane. A standard save-type dialog box is displayed.
