Thinking about the future can be exciting, but it can also be scary.
After you fi nish school, you will need to fi nd work and make it on your
own. Ideally, you will have an enjoyable job that pays well, a nice place to
live, and occasional extras.
Does this sound too good to be true, or can this become your future?
Some teens falsely believe a fulfi lling life “just falls into place.” However,
nothing could be further from the truth.
Your life is too important to leave to chance, so start planning your
future now. If you have already started, congratulations, but if not, it’s
never too late to begin. How do you get started? You begin by studying
the qualities that make you unique and actions that help shape a satisfying
future. You will explore career possibilities and learn how to identify the
options that suit you. As you determine about your future place in the
work world, you are taking steps toward building a successful life.
Knowing Yourself
To start planning your future, begin by understanding yourself. In
what types of careers do you picture yourself? What are your needs,
values, and standards? What type of personality do you have?
