The IDEO team uses brainstorming to quickly generate ideas In developing countries, people often carry heavy containers over long distances every day to collect water. The water they collect has to be purified before it can be used. To help with this process, the team at IDEO designed the Aquaduct, a cycle that allows the rider to transport and sanitize water at the same time. While the rider pedals the cycle, a pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a carbon filter, and into a smaller, clean tank. The clean, sealed tank is removable for contamination-free home storage and use. How did the team create this life-changing cycle? The team used brainstorming to generate dozens of ideas for possible solutions. Brainstorming is a problem-solving method in which a group generates many new ideas. All ideas are welcome and none are dismissed. No idea is too outrageous. The best way to generate one good idea is to have many ideas to choose from.
