Drawing Properties Dr a wing Propertie s
An AutoCAD fi le stores drawing properties that identify the file. fi The file fi type fi
and name are examples of fi le properties. Add values to drawing properties to record fi
common drawing information, such as the title of the product represented by the
drawing. You can then reference drawing properties for a variety of purposes, such
as adding text to a title block, or creating a bill of materials or report. Additionally,
content in the drawing that is linked to drawing properties updates when you make
changes to values in the
Properties
dialog box.
Access the
Properties
dialog box to view and make changes to drawing prop-
erties. See Figure 2-15. Values form in the
General
and
Statistics
tabs when you
save the fi le. You cannot edit general and statistic properties using the fi
Properties
dialog box. The
Summary
tab includes basic fi le properties, such as the title and fi
author, that you can modify using the text boxes. Use the
Custom
tab to add prop-
erties to the file, such as the name of your school or company or the design revi- fi
sion level. Pick the
Add
button to create a custom property name and default value
using the
Add Custom Property
dialog box. Remove a custom property using the
Delete
button.

The
Properties
dialog box is different from the
Properties
palette, which
is explained later in this textbook. The
Properties
dialog box contains
properties of the drawing file. The fi
Properties
palette provides access to
the properties of objects created in the drawing file. fi
