Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Chapter 16 Visual Style Settings and Basic Rendering 425 Conceptual When the Conceptual visual style is set current, objects are smoothed and shaded. The shading is a transition from cool to warm colors. The transitional colors help high- light details. The previous projection is retained and that context is set current. NOTE NOTE The categories and properties for the shaded visual styles (those other than 2D Wireframe) are the same. These settings are discussed in the Common Visual Style Settings section later in this chapter. Hidden The Hidden visual style removes obscured lines from your view and makes 3D objects appear solid. The previous projection is retained and that context is set current. The benefi t of using Hidden is that you get suffi cient 3D display, but it does not push the graphics system too hard. Objects are not shaded or colored. This is very useful when working on complex drawings and/or using a slow computer. Realistic As with the Conceptual visual style, the objects have smoothing, highlights, and shading applied to them when the Realistic visual style is set current. In addition, if materials are applied to the objects, the materials are displayed. The previous projec- tion is retained and that context is set current. This visual style is good for adjusting textures and patterns on materials and for a fi nal look at the scene before rendering. Shaded This style is very similar to Realistic, except the lighting is smooth instead of smoothest and textures are turned off. Shaded with Edges This style is the same as Shaded, except isolines are displayed with the default number of 4 and silhouette edges are displayed with a width setting of 3. Shades of Gray This style is similar to the other shaded styles, except object colors are displayed as monochrome. Materials and textures are turned off. Facet edges are turned on, as are silhouette edges. This style is good for adjusting lights and shadows. It is much easier to see what is happening with lights when all objects are the same color. Sketchy The Sketchy visual style has most of the same settings as the Hidden visual style. However, objects look like they are hand-sketched. Line extensions and jitter are turned on, as are silhouette edges. Wireframe The Wireframe visual style is almost identical in appearance to the 2D Wireframe visual style. The main differences are that the 3D mode UCS icon is displayed and OLE objects display normally regardless of the viewing angle. The previous projection is retained and that context is set current. When working in 3D, a wireframe view is sometimes necessary to select objects normally hidden from your view.
