126 Introduction to Microsoft Offi ce Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Inserting Media Files Adding a media fi le to a document is called inserting or attaching. Depending on which Microsoft Offi ce application is being used, images (both 2D and 3D), pictures, videos, and sounds can be inserted. For example, to insert a 2D image into Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Excel, click Insert Pictures in the ribbon. A standard open dialog box is displayed. Navigate to the location where the image fi le is saved, select the fi le, and click the Insert button. The image is added to the document at the point of insertion. Effects can be added to an image by selecting the image and clicking Format Adjust Artistic Effects. Users can remove the background of an image by selecting the image and clicking Format Adjust Remove Background. Styles can be applied to images by clicking Format Picture Styles. Choose the desired style from the choices displayed in the ribbon group. To insert a 3D image, click the Insert 3D Models. Microsoft Offi ce will present the user with a selection of groups of 3D models. Select one of the topics (animated models will be discussed later). Choose a 3D model and click the Insert button. The menu also lets you choose more than one 3D model. The image is added to the document at the point of insertion. Image Location and Size When an image is selected, small gray circles called handles are displayed in the middle of each edge and at the corners, as shown in Figure 4-14. Handles are used to change the size of the image. For 2D images, the corner handles are used to resize the image proportionately. This means the ratio of height to width remains the same. The handles on the top, bottom, and sides are used to resize the image non-proportionally. The ratio of height to width will change when these handles are used.
