If you wish to change any aspect of the text, select the text, and then alter the verbiage, font, color, and alignment. To format SmartArt, click SmartArt Tools Format. From this menu, the user can edit shapes, change shape styles, apply text styles, and set alt text as well as choose other types of layouts. The text entered in the graphic remains. Word 5.2.5 Creating a SmartArt Organization Chart You are in charge of explaining how the US government is organized to another class. You will show the hierarchy of the different branches of government. This activity will list the steps involved in setting up a SmartArt graphic. 1. Launch Microsoft Word. 2. Click Insert Illustrations SmartArt. The Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box is dis- played with the types of layouts available listed in the left pane, with previews shown in the middle and right panes. 3. From the left pane, click on Hierarchy. Choose Organization Chart, and click OK. 4. From the ribbon, click Design Text Pane. If you cannot see the entire pane, drag it to an open space. 5. Click on the fi rst line of the text pane. Enter US Government. The size of the text in the graphic will adjust automatically. 6. To add a new line, press [Enter], and then [Tab] to indent the text to the second level. Enter Executive on the second line. 7. Press [Enter], and enter Judiciary on the third line. Use [Tab] to indent the text to the sec- ond level if necessary. 8. Press [Enter], and enter Legislative on the third line. Use [Tab] to indent the text to the second level if necessary. 9. Applying what you have learned, enter House of Representatives and Senate as two third-level items that appear under Legislative. 10. Delete the remainder of the placeholder [Text] bullets in the text pane to eliminate them from the graphic. Close the text pane.
