The content exists in two locations. To copy content in Microsoft Offi ce, fi rst select what to copy. Then, click Home Clipboard Copy in the ribbon or press the [Ctrl][C] key combination. The content is placed on the system clipboard. Then, the content can be pasted elsewhere to create the copy. To paste is to add the content of the system clipboard to the document at the insertion point. To paste in Microsoft Offi ce, click Home Clipboard Paste in the ribbon, as shown in Figure 4-20, or press the [Ctrl][V] key combination. The clipboard content is added at the insertion point. To cut content means to remove it from the document and place it on the system clipboard. To cut content in Microsoft Offi ce, fi rst select what to cut. Then, click Home Clipboard Cut in the ribbon or press the [Ctrl][X] key combination. The content is removed from the document and placed on the system clipboard. By cutting and pasting, the content is, in effect, moved from one location to another. To move content means to remove it from the source location and place it in the destination location. Cutting and pasting moves content, but the mouse can also be used to move content. First, select what is to be moved. Then, by clicking and holding down the left mouse button, the content can be dragged to the new location. Releasing the mouse button causes the content to be dropped into the new location. Therefore, this operation is called drag-and-drop. The system clipboard is not involved in this procedure. An even more common task is to move text from one point in a document to another location in the same document. 1.
