challenge: a demanding or diffi cult task or situation that can be a source of distress.
crisis: a challenge that affects the functioning of a family.
unity: a state of being in agreement; not being divided.
solution: an answer to a problem.
family council: an informal meeting to talk about issues concerning family members.
confl ict: a disagreement between two or more people.
confl ict resolution: the process of fi nding a solution to a disagreement.
mediator: a person not involved in the confl ict, but helps settle the confl ict.
compromise: an agreement in a confl ict in which both sides are willing to give
up a little of what they wanted.
family counseling agency: a group that works with family members to help
them deal with changes and challenges.
shelter: a place that offers housing and food to people who have nowhere else
to go.
hotline: a telephone service that offers immediate information to people who
need help.
support group: a group of people with a similar challenge who provide
support and help each other cope.
