Part 6 / Fashion Promotion
The Physical Layout
Work is done to the physical layout of the
site, with stage decorations, backdrops, runways,
lighting, and props that create a background and
atmosphere for the fashion show. The stage is
the background where models enter and exit the
area within the view of the audience. Runways
are elevated walkways for the models that project
out from the stage, usually into the audience
seating area, 23-22.
Informal fashion shows use no staging,
just small props. Formal shows require staging.
Large production shows require well-engineered
backdrops and special effects.
The location and distance between the
dressing area and runway are important. The
best arrangement for fast outfi t changes is a
dressing area directly adjacent to the stage.
More models are needed if it takes a long time
to get to and from the dressing area. Also, to
minimize confusion, the dressing area and stage
should have specifi ed entrances and exits for the
models, 23-23.
The dressing area should be big enough for
the amount of models, helpers, and merchandise
being used. Space is needed for tables, chairs,
and mirrors. Clothing racks need enough space
to prevent the clothes from wrinkling. Each model
