Saving Files
The procedure for saving files is standard. Files can be saved on the fi
computer’s local hard disk drive, a network drive, a removable drive, or
the cloud. When the user saves a fi le on the local hard drive or a portable fi
fl ash drive, that same computer or flash fl drive must be used to retrieve the fl
fi le. When the file fi is saved on a network, it is stored on a hard drive that fi
can be reached from any computer on the network. If the user saves the
fi le in the cloud, the file fi can be accessed from any location by means of an fi
Internet connection.
Saving Files for the First Time
The fi rst time a file fi is saved, it must be given a name. Click the fi
File
tab in the ribbon. The view that is displayed is called the backstage view,w
as shown in Figure 4-6. Click either
Save
or
Save As
in the backstage view.
Since the fi le has not been saved, either command begins the “save as” fi
function, which is used to name the fi le. To complete the save, select a fi
location in the
Recent Folders
list or click the
Browse
button to navigate
to a folder. A standard Windows
Save As
dialog box is displayed. Finally,
enter a name for the fi le in the fi
File name:
text box in the
Save As
dialog
box, and click the
Save
button. Be sure the correct location is current in
the
Save As
dialog box before clicking the
