After the initial save when fi le is named, the fi
Save
command can
be used to save the fi le quickly. The fi
Save
command is found in the
backstage view of the
File
tab or on the
Quick Access
toolbar. If the
Save
As
command is used after the fi le has been saved at least once, a copy of fi
the fi le is created under a different name or in a different location. The fi
original document is no longer open.
Saving an Office Document
Saving a document is one of the most basic skills a computer user must have. Until a document
is saved the fi rst time, it exists only in the computer’s volatile memory. If the power is shut off, the fi
document is lost unless it has been saved.
1. Insert your
MS-OFFICE
fl ash drive into the computer. fl
2. Applying what you have learned, create a folder on the flash drive named fl Chap04.
3. Applying what you have learned, maximize Microsoft Word if it is open, or launch Word
and begin a new blank document.
4. If not already in the document, add this line of text:
Introduction to Microsoft
Office.
5. Click the
Save
button on the
Quick Access
toolbar. Since the document has not yet been
saved, the
Save As
function is started.
6. Click the
Browse
button and navigate to the
Chap04
folder on your flash drive. fl
7. Click in the
File name:
text box in the
Save As
dialog box, and enter your last name, as shown.
