Problem-Solving Practices. Successful employees also are responsible citizens. Ex-
ceeding expectations is a way to be successful at school and in your career. Make a list
of ve things that you expect of yourself on a daily basis, such as being on time, com-
pleting tasks as assigned, or being courteous. For each of the things you expect from
yourself, think about and then record what you could do to exceed those expectations.
What effect do you think exceeding your expectations has on your success?
Reading. Active reading involves concentration. Go to an online job search site.
Search for a marketing position. Choose two job postings and read each posting carefully. Create a
Venn diagram that shows the unique qualifi cations for each job and the common qualifi cations.
Writing. Interview someone who has a job as a marketing professional. Ask that person what he or
she likes best and least about the job as well as several other questions of your own. Write a one-
page paper describing what you learned from the interview and whether it affected your desire to
have a career in marketing.
Teamwork
Working with a teammate, access the 16 career clusters and make a list of marketing career
opportunities. After creating the list, identify the three careers you would each be interested
in learning more about. Discuss with your teammate why those careers might interest you.
