Any fi les or folders within the selection window will be selected, as shown in Figure 4-13. When the fi les and folders to select are highlighted by the selection window, release the left mouse button. This method only works to select fi les or folders in sequence. Another way to select fi les or folders in sequence is to use the [Shift] key. This is often easier than trying to drag a selection window. To use this method, click the fi rst fi le or folder to select it. Then, hold down the [Shift] key, and click the last fi le or folder in sequence. The fi rst and last fi le or folder and all fi les or folders between them are selected. To select individual fi les or folders that are not in sequence, the [Ctrl] key must be used. Hold down the [Ctrl] key, and then click the fi les and folders to select. The fi les and folders do not need to be in sequence, but they must be in the same parent folder. Copying Files and Folders A copy of a fi le or folder is an exact duplicate of the original at the time the copy was made. When a fi le or folder is copied from one folder to another, there are two versions of the fi le. One version exists in the source folder and one version exists in the destination folder. To copy a fi le or folder using the shortcut menu: 1. Right-click on the fi le in the source folder. This selects the fi le and displays the shortcut menu. 2. Click Copy in the shortcut menu. A copy of the fi le is placed on the system clipboard. Files to be selected Drag a window Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 4-13. Multiple files can be selected by dragging a window around them.
